Jim Murray's 2008 World Whisky of the Year! When Ardbeg 10 was released it was the first expression from the distillery not to be chill-filtered. A true classic from Islay.
This 2009 vintage was distilled from grain grown in 2008 by Gilbie McCormick of Claggan, Hunter Jackson at Cruach, Ian McKerrell of Island and Alastair Torrance from Mulindry. It is the perfect welcome home dram at the end of a hard day!
Smoke dominates to start ? smouldering hickory and complex Lapsang Souchong tea notes are backed up by coal smoke and cast iron stoves. Sweeter notes of salted caramel and bittersweet darker chocolate slowly build.
Zesty and smoky, with freshly peeled lemon rind and coal smoke straight off the bat. Behind that are youthful touches ? orchard fruit, freshly milled grain and the aroma of a warm malting floor.
A blend of top quality Islay Malt whiskies! Classic Islay character with notes of iodine, seaweed and salt from ageing close to the Atlantic and a smoky quality from drying barley over peat prior to distilling.
