Carignan was the single most planted vine variety in France until it was over taken by Merlot at the end of the 20th Century,  It is still the most planted varietal in the Languedoc Roussillon but the area it covers has halved.  As a result of this evolution much that remains is 'Vieilles Vignes'- old vines.  This wine is made from gnarly, old bish vine Carignan grown in plots surrounding the castle of Carcassonne in the southern Languedoc.

Deep purple in colour.  Lovely lifted aromatics, big notes of red berries, cherry and vanilla.  The palate is once again full of ripe fruit.  Cherry and raspberry flavours in abundance with notes of black pepper spice and sweet tobacco.  Fine, soft tannins balance out the bold, juicy fruit.

Food pairing:  Sausage and mash
